CONSERVATION

Welcome to Landscape the South's Conservation website. The purpose of the office is to help citizens and organizations protect their land. We do this by:

  1. Helping interested landowners understand all the different options available for protecting their land;
  2. Providing information regarding land conservation to the public; and
  3. Providing services to state agencies, local governments, land trusts and professionals through technical assistance, workshops and training and serving as a place for information.

Our goal is to connect you with the information and agency, land trust or organization that best address your needs. It is to point you in the right direction. The scientific discipline concerned with the ways in which Earth's biological diversity is lost and the development of solutions to protect the natural functioning of ecosystems and the species that reside within them. Extensive surveys of habitats provide valuable information on the number, kind, and health of species that reside there. Combining this information with knowledge of how various factors (such as habitat destruction, overharvesting, pollution, introduced species) contribute to the species decline and their extinction enables scientists and wildlife managers to design protection plans for vulnerable forms. Often, protection plans include the setting aside of large parcels of existing habitat, the elimination of foreign species, and the restoration of areas that have been previously altered by human activity.
